World Migratory Bird Day (May 11th)

Vancouver joins a host of other people from around the world who also celebrate birds. For the third year in a row, Vancouver celebrates World Migratory Bird Day during a week-long series of events from May 4-11, 2013. We will also join International Migratory Bird Day to celebrate the migration of birds in the Americas. Look for bird displays in the Vancouver Main Library concourse all week long. See the attached "pdf":/assets/bmn/doc/IMBD2013.pdf for lots of other events.

Photos of the 'Heron Walk' at Colony Farm Park

A Heron Walk is a walk to *view herons*, and has nothing to do with herons themselves walking.... Two guided Heron Walks were held last month by members of the Colony Farm Park Association, with the help of several BMN members. Photographer Jennifer Gauthier of the _Coquitlam NOW_ newspaper attended one of the walks, and her photos can be enjoyed by clicking "here":http://www.thenownews.com/news/Great+blue+herons+focus+Colony+Farm+PoCo/8167444/story.html.

Audubon Christmas Bird Count Results in our Area

BMN participated in the TriCities sector of the Pitt Meadows Christmas Bird Count (CBC) for the 20th consecutive year in 2012. We cover the west side of a circle based around Sheridan Hill, and the Alouette Field Naturalists cover the east side. The dividing line between west and east is, by tradition, the Pitt River. To view the results from our count, click "here":/assets/bmn/doc/2012CBCsummary.pdf. To see this year's results -- and the results of past years' counts -- go to the "Audubon Society's website":http://netapp.audubon.org/CBCObservation/CurrentYear/ResultsByCount.aspx, enter the country, province and the count code (bcpm); by clicking the tabs at the top of the page, you can view historical results and results by species.
